First, this may be my first-ever poor restaurant review. We were there for lunch on a Sunday, which was mostly brunch at 12:30PM. There were 4 adult guests ordering 1 appetizer, beverages and entrees (no special requests). Beautiful space. Hostess seemed frazzled. The food was hit or miss. See below for comments. Everything served on plastic plates. Makes it seem cheap, but would have overlooked this if food quality overall was good.
Wait staff seemed inexperienced. If training, just say that up front. People are forgiving. Waitress did not ask how we would like our eggs cooked … even if they only serve them one way, this should be noted. Food came out incorrectly —- toast instead of biscuit, main meal before the appetizer (which we then cancelled), non-alcoholic beverages had to be requested a second time when they were forgotten, shrimp and grits were served as catfish/grits (when corrected, the shrimp arrived when everyone else had finished eating), had to ask for flatware, waitress offered to bring the missing appetizer free-of-charge AFTER we had finished eating —- why not offer immediately or offer free dessert? So many mistakes.
Food quality:
- Mixed drinks from the bar were A++ really showcasing Uncle Nearest distillery. A fantastic Old Fashioned —- Must order!
- Scrambled eggs seem like something from a buffet tray rather than freshly scrambled.
- Biscuits are worse than canned. First one came out cold. Second one, which I actually ate, was warm but dense and heavy, not flaky —- they don’t seem homemade.
- Brioche French toast and grits had good flavor.
Gospel brunch music very loud. I can overlook but FYI.
Final straw —- 2 couples with 2 incorrect bills! For every mistake, we were charged for the original order and the wrong order. The manager (?) stepped in about mid-way through the meal, but mistakes continued to happen.
Sadly, this experience made our guests disinterested in Uncle Nearest which should have been the star-of-the-show.
