This is a poor review for both Open Table & The Grand Wailea’s Humuhumunukunukuāpua’a. I made reservations on Open Table at Humuhumu for lunch on Christmas Day. There was nothing that said this was a fixed-price Christmas brunch buffet (the standard menu was showing) nor did it give a price, I chose this restaurant for its Hawaiian-style food for visiting guests for the day, I requested standard seating. At this point, in choosing a restaurant I was familiar with who was having Christmas buffets & showing costs, so I knew what I was looking for.
Arriving at the Grand Wailea it was difficult to find someone to help direct us to Humuhumunukunukuāpua’a, the concierge gave poor instructions. I went down to Humuhumu, quite a walk. The restaurant was not open, not a soul was there. I saw a single small paper sign on my way back up the path, 30 or so feet away from the restaurant guiding me to a Christmas brunch buffet which I followed in hopes of finding someone to tell me what I was to do about my reservation. I make it to the brunch, which is outside in a mediocre location & ask about my reservations. I am told that my lunch was merged into the brunch. They put us at a table and tell us to join the brunch and do not mention a cost, It’s buffet style, and the food is mediocre at best and we each get charged $175 (!!!) per person for mediocre food, locale, aesthetic, and no communication from either Open Table or Humuhumunukunukuāpua’a. Appalling. Could we have left had we known the price? Sure, but where would we have gone? Everything was closed or booked.
Where was the info that should be on Humuhumu's page with fixed price and that it's a standard brunch? Is that on Open Table or is it on the restaurant for not updating their own page? The appalling service all around, and meh food quality from Grand Wailea, which I have not even described here, is on them and I will be complaining directly to them. I would love to talk to Open Table but they are impossible to talk to.
