Hy's Calgary is a modern rendition of the classic steakhouse tradition. Pride of place is held by the circular, glass enclosed grill room, producing perfect charcoal grilled Canadian Prime Grade steaks. The horseshoe shaped bar is surrounded by lounge and dining spaces that are both spacious and intimate. The menu features classic and newly imagined recipes, but Hy's favourites, like the famous Caesar salad and Steak Diane, are still prepared tableside. The extensive wine list, and delicious, hand crafted cocktails, promise something for every taste. Whether for lunch, dinner, or something in between, Hy's promises a timeless and memorable experience. Weekends are free for the first 3 hours, a $2 flat rate applied for any additional time.

    Cheesy toast and salad were great. I ordered the gorgonzola filet and found it cold upon serving. The beef Wellington came out warm and nice. Pascal the server was attentive and came to check in. The live music I found a bit off putting and a bit loud for the ambience of the restaurant; piano or jazz would maybe suit it better but subjective (?) I found the experience OK but not somewhere I’d go again or recommend anyone to come for a special occasion especially since this was reserved for Valentines Day.

    Probably my least preferred visit to Hy's. Ordered the steak sandwich with garden salad and it was probably one of the poorest cuts of steak I have received after eating there many times. Steak came with no bread(?), but while that was unusual, I was not overly bothered. Salad was huge proportionately so the whole plate looked off. Even the waitress was shocked when she saw it. She was lovely and the service was very good. Might be awhile before I return.

    The food, especially the steaks, are always exceptional at Hy's. The serivce was very slow which is a problem for those of us working downtown and needing to get back to the office in a timely manner.

    Our experience at Hy Steakhouse was nothing short of exceptional, making it the perfect spot for a Valentine's Day dinner. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The complimentary coat and bag check at the entrance was a thoughtful touch, setting the tone for the evening. The ambiance was further enhanced by a live singer, whose performance added a delightful and romantic atmosphere to the dining experience. One of the standout features of the restaurant is the transparent open kitchen, where we could see the chefs preparing steaks over an open flame. This not only added to the dining experience but also gave us confidence in the quality and freshness of the food. Our server was exceptional. He was attentive yet unobtrusive, patiently waiting for us to finish our conversations before addressing our needs. His recommendations were spot-on, and the dishes we ordered were nearly flawless. The dry-aged ribeye steak, in particular, was a highlight—rich in flavor and truly memorable. Overall, Hy Steakhouse provided a unique and unforgettable steakhouse experience. It was the perfect setting for a romantic Valentine's Day celebration, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.
