Il Fornaio means the Baker in Italian. Located in downtown Carmel, Il Fornaio offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience and a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence wine list.     A reliable, local spot with a nice, big room and a vibrant atmosphere. Our waiter, Aidan, was terrific. We enjoyed our meals. Nothing groundbreaking here, but well-executed and tasty

    Christmas evening meal , very good food , I marked down the service because it was very slow. I do understand it was Christmas and they were completely overwhelmed. overall it was a very good dining experience.

    Il Fornaio, Carmel, Ca was a huge disappointment. We were excited to revisit it and enjoy Christmas dinner with friends however most of the staff working were either untrained in hospitality or just rude. Food was so/so and certainly not worth the price. Ambience was warm but run down and worn. What happened?

    We were fortunate to get a window seat in the dining room next to street on Christmas Day. Brian was an excellent server and each course of food that we had was fantastic. A great experience on a busy day.

    I hate to be the Xmas Grinch, but it ain’t worth it. Instead of bringing the starter, we received main course and starter at the same time. Service useless. And the main course was not fully hot either. The only redeeming factor was the espresso. Must try harder guys.

    We had a reservation for 12.45p on Christmas Day. There weee plenty of open reservations, so we thought it may not be crowded. When we got there we realized it’s going to take a long while to get our order. Pizza was backlogged, so no pizza. When it became 30min with nothing yet, they kindly brought some bread for us on the house. The entrees took another half hour before they arrived one at a time. Food was tasty. We noticed the people waiting were overloaded, likely shortstaffed on a holiday. Our gratitude to them for being so patient. My recommendation would be to not take so many reservations and walkins when you are overloaded and short staffed even if you have open tables.
