Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

    Beautiful view of the San Diego Harbor! We always have excellent service and food, our server was friendly and accomodating. Sat outside on the patio, it was a bit windy on this sunny Easter Sunday and cool. We've been here several times and have enjoyed their pizza, entrees and delicious salads. Recommend making reservations. Thank you!

    The caprese salad was lots of tomato but kind of flavorless, the mozzarella was good and adequate quantity, but we only got three basil leaves which was way too little for the order. Although we asked and received more, we may have been better off getting a different appetizer. The gnocchi was fair but wasn’t very tender and it had very little sausage which was need to help with the lack of flavor. We loved the butternut ravioli, that was the star of the show, along with the fantastic downtown view and good service. For the cost of the entrees, we expected much better.

    The manager Jorge is just the nicest most congenial host. I had ravioli stuffed with short rib and covered in mushroom Norcina sauce. To DIE for. So good - thought I was back in Italy. Had the view of SD watching Rady Shell come alive. Just perfect! Highly recommend Il Fornaio especially if you are having out-of-state company visit.

    Gorgeous day for a window table. Early dinner before noisy crowds. Food and service excellent as always. Parking easy.
