Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

    My holiday themed cocktail (a Moscow mule with cranberry syrup) was very yummy. Branzino was delicious. Loved the setting and even at night the views on the water overlooking S.D. are great. Staff was just meh. Hosts were not very welcoming and neither was waitstaff. Just there to do what was required of them it seems. I would have expected more at an Italian restaurant. My friend asked for no ice in her drink and it was forgotten.

    We have dined at II Fornaio many times over the years and this is the first time we were not absolutely satisfied. Our service was very sporadic when measured by past dining experiences. The wait staff was certainly NOT attentive. Both mine and my guest's pasta was a bit undercooked (but still edible). While I understand it's been a while since we dined here when did bread served at the table start to have a cost of $4? And charging $6 for a soda drink is excessive!! Us and our guests will think twice about dining here again when there are many other Italian restaurants available with better service etc.

    Everything was great minus one meal. Service was great and drinks were great. Our lost expensive dish was the chicken Parmesan and it was not great. I would say average at best. All else was wonderful!

    Your service was outstanding!! I chose this place to have lunch with my grandparents, who are in their nineties. The building is easy to access and your hostess helped us arrange seating for their wheelchairs. Our waiters were very friendly and spoke Spanish, which helped my family with ordering. Thank you for modifying my grandmother’s meal so she could have it more easily. Going out to a restaurant with my grandparents is something we don’t take for granted these days. Thank you for hosting us.

    I took my daughter and 6 of her friends for 18th birthday dinner. Confirmed reservation at 8:30 inside dining earlier in day. Upon arriving at 8:30 was told 10 mins. After 15 minutes I inquired again. After another 5 mins I asked again- most needed an eta or any type of communication that the host staff cared. Finally sat an outdoor table at 8:55. Didn’t get drinks (soft drinks and water) until 9:10. While waiter as decent, he had an accent that was hard to understand with how fast he talked and almost like we were a bother of a table. The food was good, the girls enjoyed it and they did bring a birthday dessert. Overall it was good but a touch disappointing. Maybe I have too high of expectations these days.

    I was very excited to dine here but I was very disappointed by the service and some of the food. The restaurant was overwhelmed by a crowd which really compromised the service.
