Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Repeat winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

    All the dishes ordered were very good, but especially recommend the linguine mare Chiara which was excellent. Service was a little slow, but busy on a fri night. Reservation recommended. Parking in structure underneath, 1st hour free.

    The four of us had a great time at Il Fornaio. It was our waiter’s first time, and he thoroughly enjoyable. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend.

    Great food and the view is spectacular. I always bring visiting friends from the East Coast here when they visit. Quintessential coastal Southern California.

    Food was very disappointing and average at best. I attended as part of the Silver Oak wine dinner. Most dishes were too salty and the Osso Buco was the wirst I’ve ever had. The piece I was served over 95% and complete fat.

    We were staying in Del Mar for the weekend and are so pleased that we came here on our last night in town. The Linguini de Mare was INCREDIBLE, service was top notch and it’s in a cute little plaza with plenty going on. Highly recommend.

    Been to multiple IF locations many times - this was by far the worst experience. Food took an hour but there was a very large party. Understandable, I get it. But, when food came quality was very poor - bland and tasteless to say the least. Do not recommend this location. Get the feeling that they are consistently busy due to location and not performance.

    It’s a longtime favorite for us. The food is always good. The service is good. Even on a busy night they were able to fit us in and we did not have to wait.
