Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2007.

                                  It was excellent as always! This is our favorite place in San Francisco. The service has always been outstanding, as well as the food. We love the quiet elegant ambience. We are so sorry that is closing. Please reconsider!

                                  Great atmosphere. Initially had an issue with server. Manager quickly stepped on and all was good. Great wine and pasta seafood medley. Scallops were incredible. But the Italian Spumoni for dessert was over the top. Quiet location, quiet ambiance. Pasta dish a little too salty and too much garlic. But overall a very tasty dish loaded with shrimp, clams, scallops, and mussels. I’d easily revisit this restaurant.

                                  Overall a very disappointing experience. Having dined at Il Fornaio in Irvine and San Diego previously, we had high expectations about the food and service. Neither was close to the previous meals we had enjoyed at the other locations. The service was average at best as the waiter seemed like he could not wait to leave for the evening and the food was not only tasteless but also undercooked. It probably explains why the restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived at 7 PM.
