Opened in 2011, Indigenous has earned a reputation for being an inspirational and educational restaurant. For years, Indigenous has been known as one of America’s top restaurants, renowned for its passion for food, the community, and the planet. Indigenous’ menu of seasonal American cuisine changes progressively throughout the year based on peak ingredient availability. With a focus on sustainable seafood, we work closely with local fisherman, artisans, and farmers to maintain the highest quality. At Indigenous, we are always working our best to create a better food system. Owner Chef Steve Phelps has been a James Beard Foundation Semi Finalist for Best Chef South in 2014 & 2015, an Ambassador for Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force, and a founding member and Chef for the EDF Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture.

Just a beautiful quaint setting, fantastic food and a perfect server ...charming but not invasive. I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience we had. Oh,we ate outside.

Excellent dining experience! Service was top notch, knowledgeable and friendly staff. The mushroom bisque was the best, followed by the rare ahi tuna entree! 5 stars on the entire dining experience!!!

A true find for my family last night. The carefully crafted menu features interesting dishes and changes often we were told. Very few staples on it. We had 3 apps we shared and entrees and 3 different desserts. All were very good, some outstanding. They only serve beer and wine. My bourbon drinkers were sad but survived. Overall, a very nice out. Parking can be tough but available a block or so away.

Our best meal in Sarasota by far. Local, seasonal, lovely room. Our server was smart and funny and knowledgeable. Indigenous is a very special place.

My wife and I had a lovely experience— the waiters were attentive, the service prompt and the atmosphere was subdued yet elegant! Would recommend highly!

Enjoyed meal and service in a quiet setting. Menu is somewhat limited but probably reason quality is high.

Always a delicious meal with fresh ingredients. One of my favorite things about the restaurant is that the food is locally sourced and the menu features what’s seasonally available.

Exquisite meal: fish dip, salad, mushroom bisque and yellowtail snapper. Our server Katie was exceptional. A perfect evening in a charming atmosphere.
