so, where do I start. This is the first time I have eaten at the inn and I took a chance and booked a table for Valentines night. my intention was to surprise the wife but that went out the window when I was called and asked to pre-book my food, surprise gone. The wife had to tell me what she wanted.
So we turned up to an almost empty restaurant however, almost every table was reserved with names on. I very much doubt every person that night had made a booking with reference with a specific table. We were sat right in the corner, I had the coats on my arm, that's how close I was to the wall. A lovely couple (mum & daughter) was sat next to use, literally on my shoulder. Any plans for intimate conversation went out the window. At this time, and for the next 40 unites, there was only 3 couples in the restaurant end. I initially asked to move but the staff replied with 'NO'. We have put names to every table and we cannot move anyone. By this time and the lack of any flexibility, I nearly left but getting a table elsewhere one Valentines was impossible.
Our Starters was excellent, no complaints, and then it went south. the Steak was overcooked and looked thin and cheap. They replaced both steaks within 10 minutes and the second was nice but not out of this world for the price.
The deserts were ok and we decided to have 2 different ones and swap however, my wife bit into her piece of stocky toffee only to find a bit if the silver foil...oh...She was distraught.
My wife decided to go to the car when I went up to pay. There was little remorse from the staff, the chef never came out to apologise and I had to convince the waiter to reduce the bill.
Overall, very dissatisfied and unfortunately I will not be going back (even though I am local). I am really disappointed, being local I really wanted to like the Inn so that I can visit it in the Summer but I think I will stick with the Smugglers and there Beach House.
