Iron Gate, located near Dupont Circle, stands as one of the district’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and is split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio and a handsomely enclosed carriageway that houses the bar.

Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

Iron Gate also serves as an idyllic oasis for fine private events both large and small, so please consider us when planning your next fête, we'd love to have you as our guests.

    Food was good not great, service was very good, but it was very noisy in the indoor part of the restaurant. And there was also music playing which made it hard to hear other people at our own table of 4. If you wear hearing aids communication would be close to a lost cause.

    front desk host was great and he was friendly and attentive , most of food service support team were good but our waitress was distracted, forgetful, inattentive and overall her service was terrible. we were ignored often, even when trying to order food and drinks missing and arrived towards end of our meals, after we repeatedly asked about it we were there for my husbands birthday and had informed restaurant and sadly it was not special in any way- at minimum would have expected good service .

    Ambience was amazing, but the family style dinner for $100.00 a person was not worth the price. Food was average!

    Some attempt to cut down on the noise would help. Rugs, drapes, curtains, ceiling buffers—anything would help. It’s really hard to talk without raising one’s voice if the restaurant has a large number of guests.

    Incredible coursed menu or ala carte. Inventive yet original/earthy flavors using seasonal ingredients. I didn’t know how amazing venison could be! Highly recommend: book in advance

    This is my third time at Iron Gate and I usually love the experience but this time I didn't walk away feeling satisfied. The courses for the family table option didn't work well together, our waiter seemed much more interested in serving other tables and it took almost 2.5 hours for 2 of us to eat. I'd love to come back for a different experience, but I'll be thinking twice before spending $300.
