I encountered a significant issue during my recent visit to Jacopo, which was marred by an unexpected sight. As a native of the United States, I had a positive experience on my first visit, and I invited friends to celebrate my birthday there. I even reached out to the restaurant to inform them about the occasion and express my excitement about sharing my birthday at their establishment for the second time in three years.
Upon our arrival, we waited briefly for our table and were seated next to the open kitchen. While the service was initially slow due to the restaurant’s busyness, I understood the delay. However, towards the end of our meal, I noticed a substantial number of mouse droppings on the ledge that leads to the open window of the kitchen where the food is prepared.
Disappointed by the sight, I rose from my seat and moved away from the area. I informed the waitress about the presence of the droppings, and she inquired if I had observed a mouse. I clarified that I had only seen the droppings, and she responded with a sigh of relief, exclaiming, “Whew, at least no mouse!”
This response left me perplexed and disappointed. The waitress failed to acknowledge the inconvenience caused by the unsanitary conditions and did not apologize for the lack of cleaning efforts. The nonchalance with which she handled the situation was particularly concerning, as it appears to be a common occurrence at the restaurant.
As a result of this incident, I am unable to fully appreciate the food I ordered. The memory of the mouse droppings lingers in my mind, overshadowing the dining experience. While I understand that restaurants may encounter occasional issues, I believe they have a responsibility to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for their patrons.
Unfortunately, my positive experience on my first visit was tainted by this unfortunate incident, leaving a negative impression on my friends who had joined me for the celebration.
