In 1996, JJ's was honored with the Grand Award from Wine Spectator. In 2025, JJ's Wine List and Bar Program was honored as a Semi Finalist by the James Beard Foundation. Our passion for great food and beverages has made us a perennial favorite among Kansas Citians for 40 years!
In 1985, Jimmy Frantze purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. Jimmy invested his enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American food, steaks and wine to build one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza.

    We have our Saber Room which seats from 6 - 18 guests. Booking times for the Saber Room are either 5pm or 8pm. For this room, we do 1 check with 20% gratuity. This check can be split up to 4 ways. For events larger than 18, please call us at 816-561-7136 to check availability!

                  My husband wanted somewhere new, usually we stay north of the river, but I grew up south so JJs is familiar to me. It didn’t disappoint. First, our server was amazing. He was top notch. He said he hadn’t been there long and to please excuse him as he was still new, you couldn’t tell 10/10 on his service. The crab cakes were phenomenal. We both had surf and turf. The steaks were tender and cooked perfectly. The lobster was seasoned and tender. Overall, we will be back in the future.

                  Tenderloin burger was one of the best we’ve ever had. Value was fantastic. Drinks were fabulous and our waiter was top notch. We’ll definitely be back often!!

                  All the service staff from the minute we arrived were outstanding. It was very busy and very noisy. The food was good, and it was a thorough wine list. It was rather expensive.

                  I went for the Meyer Wine Dinner and it was fantastic! The food and wine pairings were perfection. Everything was delicious and it was fun to hear from the owner/wine maker, Matt Meyer, about the different wines that were served that evening and the history of his and his family’s in the wine business, (His father Justin Meyer co-founded Silver Oak.) It was extremely reasonably priced too! I can hardly wait until the next one!

                  First visit. Hostess was the highlight. Bartenders (plural intended) were brusque and bordering impolite, despite the number of open seats. Setting was nice and menu looked promising. Ribeye ordered medium was part rare, part medium rare. Steak knife may as well have been plastic - it shredded more than it cut. They really could invest in better utensils. The potatoes were way salty. I don’t believe I’m wrong to have higher standards when dinner for two eclipses $300, and we passed on dessert. Overall, we had hopes and left disappointed.
