Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Took about 15 minutes for someone to greet my table. And when someone did it was the server assistant who took my drink order. When the server finally came, she asked me what I wanted to drink and when I said I already placed it, she just immediately walked away with out saying anything. It just seemed like since I was a solo diner I was forgotten about most of the night. The fries were ok, pretty standard. The celery cheddar salad was great. The pappardelle entree was ok but came out room temperature so it was coagulated and a big lump. Didn't order dessert, wished there were more options than one pie and vanilla soft serve. Just expected a more creative dessert menu since Henrietta Red's is so good. Will try the place again once they have worked out the kinks

The service was excellent. Our server, Conner, took very good care of us and was extremely personable. We never felt rushed. The food was delicious and portion sizes were perfect. Will return often!!

A very good meal in a comfortable place. Not fussy, but without compromising standards. A place I was happy and proud to support. Nice job

Such a cute place. My husband and I split the oysters, Caesar salad, and two entrees and it was the perfect amount of food, great quality and prices. Good cocktail menu and even had a non alcoholic rosé I could order. Would definitely recommend!

This was my second visit, and we sat at the bar this time. We arrived early, and it was pretty empty, but by 7:15, it was packed with happy diners! We had oysters, trout rillette, leafy greens, whole trout, and mushrooms escabeche. All DELICIOUS!!! Had the tagliatelle last time we were here, and it was also spectacular. Decor is tasteful and modern. Cocktails are interesting and yummy. We had the parenthesis cocktail. Ingredients and dishes are unique and high quality, so prices are kind of high for the area. But totally worth the splurge!
