The food -- chicken liver mousse and raw oyster appetizers, schnitzel and steak main courses -- was excellent. The schnitzel was an especially generous serving with crisp breading and slightly tangy seasoning (mustard?). The service had a couple of wrinkles: I asked for a virgin Mary, if that was available, or soda and lime, if not. The delicious virgin Mary was served right away, and then I was also served sparkling water (not seltzer as expected) with a slice of lime. I had earlier asked for the mousse, but was initially served the trout rillette. That mistake was promptly corrected. I was charged for the inaccurate water but not the rillette. I probably could have refused the mistaken water, but chose not to challenge two missteps, just one. Despite the mix-up, service was efficient, appropriately attentive, even cordial without being too chatty. For my ears, the room was very noisy which made conversation somewhat strained -- but I have that issue almost everywhere if the room is busy. I look forward to trying other menu items, and I hope the menu will change, perhaps seasonally. A good cheese plate for ending the meal, especially given that Sewanee has such superb local cheeses, would be a most welcome way to end a meal at Judith. A bit of Sequatchie Bleu and slices of fresh pear would have made a very fine meal nearly perfect.
