ABOUT GRGICH
Grgich Hills Estate was founded on July 4, 1977, by Croatian-born Miljenko "Mike" Grgich and Austin Hills of the Hills Bros. Coffee Co. family with a shared vision of producing world-renowned wines of the highest quality. Mike had already drawn worldwide attention when the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that he crafted became the winner of the famous 1976 blind-tasting known as the Judgment of Paris, besting the top French white Burgundies and red Bordeaux, and earning him the title “King of Chardonnay”. This blind tasting revolutionized the wine world and inspired generations of wine drinkers to explore California wines. Today, we remain family-owned and operated with the Grgich and Hills families sharing equal ownership. Continuing the legacy, Mike's daughter, Violet Grgich, was named President of the winery in 2017, and his nephew, Ivo Jeramaz, as winemaker and Vice President.
