After 18 years of service at Shokudo Japanese Restaurant and Bar on Kapiolani boulevard, we are excited to announce the introduction of Kaimuki Shokudo on 11th avenue. You can expect the same Shokudo essence and hospitality paired with a new exciting concept featuring fresh soba along with other delicious Japanese specialties. Bartender/server (male) was amazing. Very attentive, great attitude just outstanding. Best experience yet, and we frequent Kaimuki Shokudo at least 2-3/mo. Will be back soon!

Kinda expected the portions to be on the smaller side as compared to the price. Howeverz, the most dissappointing item was the ribeye steak. For $28, we didn’t expect to get a lukewarm piece of meat that felt and tasted like it was reheated in a microwave.

Very convenient reservation times on OpenTable. Customer service was great. Food was high quality, fresh, and the restaurant week special is a great value deal! Ambience of the restaurant was very nice; I really enjoy the tasteful decorations, and the spacing of the tables were appropriate.

After dining here 5-6 times in the past 6 months, I was looking forward to another satisfying dining experience. I was very disappointed. I made reservations although the place was empty - 2 at the bar & 2 at a table. We were directed to sit “over there” - whatever that meant, so I asked if we could have the little larger table. She said “no” because another reservation was coming at 7 - that was nearly 3 hours later. That made no sense but we sat at the small table. It was sticky but we didn’t complain. The food came and was great as usual but the server kept bringing our food to the other table. She only had our table and the other yet couldn’t get the orders to the right diners. Sheesh. That’s the way it was the whole time we were there. One last issue - my guava Chu-hi always came in a mug but this time I got the really tiny Suntory beer glass - with so much ice I hardly had any drink to enjoy. For the price I did expect a full drink. Kaimuki Shokudo seems to have lost its focus in providing great izakaya food and service - the service left so much to be desired. When speaking to the manager, all she could do was apologize and say they had ordered more mugs (?!?!?). Won’t be going back.
