   Kayao is an absolute gem in Chicago! We tried the Ceviche Carretillero, Pulpo Parrillero, and Arroz con Mariscos, and every bite was fantastic—but the arroz con mariscos stole the show. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Our server and the manager shared a great tip: save the rocoto leche de tigre from the ceviche and drizzle it over the arroz—it adds an incredible burst of flavor that takes the dish to another level. We also had the Aji y Maguey and a Pisco Sour, both beautifully balanced and crafted with care. The ambiance was perfect for a date night—cozy, modern, and inviting. The staff were genuinely warm and attentive, which made the whole evening feel truly special. Can’t wait to go back!

   Our food was excellent, our server was great, and we loved every course. We had the lions mane and ceviche to start. I had the fried rice and my partner had the short rib main, and we had the panna cotta dessert. Our only issue was with our table. I chose the restaurant for our anniversary because of the cool vibe and food recommendations. We were sat away from the dining room by the windows in a corner by the exit, safety signs, and fire extinguisher. It was also cold on the window side of the table. So.. while we loved our food, it really felt like we were missing the experience of the space and we felt disappointed.

   Great spot for fresh, healthy and interesting dishes. Wish they would add one more vegetarian dish. Lions mane mushroom and ceviche were the best

   Unbelievable experience! Food was phenomenal, I received compliments from every member of my group. Service was impeccable. I'm thrilled with my experience, and will be coming back every time I visit Chicago. Truly a hidden gem of the city!

   Absolute hidden gem in uptown! We’ll be back, can’t let the brunch menu be the only thing we have gotten. Absolutely solid food!

   This is an intimate and authentic Peruvian restaurant - beautiful moody but fun vibe and great food. Our favorite combination is to share the Bronzino and the Tenderloin stir fry. We will be back again and again.

   We had a party of 7 and everyone loved the experience. Very attentive service, authentic food, great for sharing. My husband had the ceviche and loved it. Can’t wait to go back. Wine offerings were regionally complementary to the food. Same with the cocktails.

    The managers/owners were particularly attentive to us to make sure we had an amazing experience. W loved the music playlist and they took time to notice and share the playlist. It’s this little gesture on top of great food, amazing ambiance, and attentive service that makes me wish we could give them a 100/10. We will definitely come again and can’t wait to try out thier other new restaurants. Looking forward to the speakeasy as well.
