Kellari Taverna is located in the heart of New York City, three blocks from Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. The dining room décor evokes a subterranean wine cellar designed with contemporary elegance. Kellari features the traditional Greek taverna specialties, such as our signature grilled whole fish, prime lamb chops and chicken meats, and an eclectic selection of contemporary Hellenic savory appetizers ("mezedes") created by our Executive Chef. The Kellari dessert menu includes innovative specialties such as warm sokolata with goat milk vanilla ice cream as as well as traditional favorites such as Baklava and bougatsa. Kellari Taverna offers an extensive international wine list featuring a large selection of Greek wines.

    We are not new to Kellari, but that is kind of the point. We visit New York frequently from DC to see theater and eat well. Some of that eating is always done here. The freshness of everything, from the fish to the beefsteak tomatoes on the salads, is remarkable. One always leaves feeling both satisfied and healthier for the experience. This time we had some spanakopita (not to be missed) and a split Greek salad (Oh, those tomatoes!) with a piece of Fagri that was perfectly fresh and exquisitely done. We had a great half-bottle of Brunello, too, from their ample selection of splits, which is great for diners like us who want a taste but can seldom finish a whole bottle. The ambiance is comfortable to the point of being family-like. As for service, it is always stellar and Phillip easily upheld that tradition. We recommend this place to all who are attracted by the menu with the highest measures of confidence and enthusiasm.

    We had the pea soup and the vegetarian moussaka. It was delicious and filling. The dessert with the flaky pastry and the custard and the chocolate ganache was delicious. The service was very good. And the decor was simple and pretty.

    Kellari Taverna is one of the best high-end Greek Restaurants in NYC. The freshest fish and seafood (on display) perfectly prepped, cooked & served. All staff were friendly, professional & well-trained. Excellent food, beverage, service and ambiance. Happy Holidays!!!

    Frankly, we were disappointed. At the price per entree I expected to be wowed. I wasn’t. my $60+ lamb was a meager portion, skimpily sauced, two asparagus and two small potatoes. The calamari appetizer while cooked perfectly was unremarkable and a haphazard plating. My daughter’s chicken and companion’s halibut were overdone. Lovely service and atmosphere but the overall food prep was subpar.

    The food was very good and moderately priced. The service was excellent. We never had to ask for a refill on our water and when I mentioned it was my mother's birthday, they came out with cookies, after dinner drinks and cakes with a small candle with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate. We had already paid the check so they really didn't have to do that but my mother was very touched by the gesture. We were a party of six and our table was a little cramped. They pulled two small tables together but I felt we were still too tight even by NYC standards. I understand it's the holidays and the restaurant was very packed. The noise level was louder than I normally like but since we were sitting so close to each other we didn't have a problem carrying on a conversation. All in all, we really liked the restaurant and my husband and I said we definitely would come back again... maybe when it's not so crowded in the city.
