This was a such a nice place to eat. From walking in the décor is inviting with fairy lights, Edison bulbs in a creel and a nice warm and clean feel to the restaurant. Staff are friendly and informative especially with my wife's dairy intolerance where the chefs were able to make changes to allow her to enjoy the food.
And ohhh the food, this was amazing. We were advised maybe 4 small plates between two was the average so that's what we did. I ordered Trout, treacle, whisky, sea buckthorn and puffed barley. Usually this also comes with crème fraiche if your not avoiding dairy. This was a delightful dish with cured pieces of fish in a circle with the puffed barley on top and the sea buckthorn. The barley was a very satisfying crunch and a great foil to the melty texture of the fish and it tasted delicious!
The next dish was the Mussels, tikka masala, coconut, coriander and lime. This is already dairy free and is an absolute delight. The sauce itself was almost like a soup and perfectly complimented the mussels natural flavouring.
The third dish we had was the hand dived Barra scallop, Jerusalem artichoke, lovage and king oyster mushroom. Again this was made dairy free for my wife which was appreciated. The scallop itself was perfectly cooked, showed the screamin hot pan to scare it then served to maintain the flavour and texture of the scallop.
And the final dish I kept all to myself as it couldn't be made dairy free and i am so very happy (sorry wifey!). This was the star of the evening, i had the Orkney crab doughnut with brown crab emulsion chilli and sesame. It looked amazing and was actually a doughnut rather than an arrangement to play on the idea which was amazing. the flavour was absolutely divine. It had a lovely tangy hint form the chili with a lovely sesame hit on the front end! This was devoured in double quick time.
I then got dessert which was aa Rhubarb, caramelised white chocolate and ginger arctic roll. Delicious!
