Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* where food and drink are treated with equal reverence. Located in Chicago’s West Loop, Kumiko boasts incredible cocktails and spirits with exquisite food to pair.

Owner and bartender Julia Momosé blends Japanese ingredients and techniques to create an elevated menu of beverages and bites.

Whether you come to savor some of Japan’s finest saké or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

    Our seasonal tasting menu is rooted in Japanese ingredients, melding the cross-cultural experiences and techniques of Chef Josh Mummert with the guidance of Creative Director Julia Momose. We highlight the best of the season and seek to showcase the breadth of Japanese cuisine through the lens of mixed-heritage, embracing the time and place in which we reside. Spiritfree, Japanese Sake, and Cocktail pairings are available to add on upon seating. Gluten Free and Pescatarian menus are available, but we are unfortunately unable to accommodate any other dietary restrictions.  We kindly ask for more than 24 hours notice to make these accommodations, and that you include any restrictions in your reservation notes at the time of booking.

                                I truly think Kumiko is a national gem. As a hospitality house, Kumiko has a lot of love going into every detail, from the hand towels at the start of the meal, the light levels, the curated stemware, down to the earnest "goodbye" (my coat was literally waiting for me, the moment I left the table). I've been going for several years, and every time the staff goes above and beyond expectation: On my last visit I particularly appreciated the N/A options, from the beers to the spirits. Maintaining that level of warmth in service takes hard work, dedication and spirit. The specials served today were both exceptional — particularly the yellowtail collar, down to the level of char. — So delish!

                                Great dining experience! All servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Long/deep cocktail menu (all with some Japanese flair to them). Dedicated gluten free menu for those guests (which includes a fried chicken option!) The potato salad (gluten free), twice fried chicken (gluten free) and the wagyu katsu (not gluten free) were the highlights of our meal. Pricey but definitely worth the treat

                                Amazing experience from service, food, and drinks. The best old fashioned I’ve ever had. Made my evening unforgettable. Can’t wait to come back.

                                As our second round of drinks arrived, the server asked us to leave in 20 minutes to free up the table. We got no service here and were forced to pay a 20% tip. Probably because if given the choice, no one would leave one. I’ve been to many restaurants in Japan and have never received service like this.

                                A fantastic but pricey cocktail experience. The food portion size to price/taste is just ok. Next time, I’d stay just for cocktails.

                                Impeccably accommodating! Front of house host Shiz was great, she was able to move up our reservation time when we got into town too early! We had a phenomenal server who assisted with pairing beverages with a la carte food items. The attentive service was subtle, efficient and elegant! We received a signed card from the staff for our wedding anniversary, thank you for such a memorable first anniversary celebration ❤️

                                God this place was just bad. We paid extra for the cavier and truffle on the fixe menu. So our total bill was $1.200 for 4 of us. And the flavors were just off. The only good dish was the oyster sampler. Staff was rude and snobby and kicked us out after an hour and a half. Hard pass!
