This was our second visit to Kumo. We were hoping to make Christmas Eve at Kumo a new holiday tradition; but tonight's visit left us underwhelmed and irritated. We are a younger couple who were able to leave our kids with grandparents for a rare dinner alone tonight, but were seated between two families: to the left, a family of 4 with surly teenagers lounging inappropriately on the cushioned seats while on their phones between speaking way too loudly, including some speakerphone conversation with their grandmother; to the right, a family of 5 with three very young children under five. I had requested a high-top table with a view of the beach and was assured by phone that we would be seated accordingly, but my request was not heeded at check-in. We would have been willing to wait for a table if necessary. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but seemed hurried and disinterested. Our experience wasn't all bad: Drinks were good. Water was served quickly upon arrival, which we appreciated. Appetizer and salad were both good and came timely. My husband's steak was tasty and executed perfectly. Unfortunately, I was unable to order the seafood pasta without octopus, so I ordered the sea bass, which was pretty underwhelming. Not bad, just not what I was looking for. There wasn't much else on the menu that excited me, so I didn't make a fuss. Dessert options were intriguing, but we chose to forego dessert in order to escape our neighbors. Last year we had a great time, a good table with a great view overlooking the ocean and we could see the fireworks from our table, and warm waitstaff bringing delicious food. Next year, we will still consider Kumo for Christmas Eve, but will definitely look for alternative dining options. Kumo, we know you can do better. If a couple without kids comes in to dine on a special occasion, please do not seat them between two families with children! It really resulted in a disappointing experience for us tonight.
