We read mixed reviews about La Deriva which made us slightly apprehensive about our meal there. Particularly as it was Valentine’s Day (not a big deal for us) which can bring out the worst in restaurant Schmultz!
We needn’t have worried. On arrival we were brought a mimosa on the house from our waiter. Nice touch. Our waitress was initially frosty but mellowed out after we ordered.
We had the bellota ham, burrata, cod balls and deep fried aubergine washed down with a damn fine mescal cocktail (which was smokey and delicious… I ordered another). There was a good vibe in the restaurant and the decor is upscale and interesting.
We had an excellent experience overall: great quality food and good service. This isn’t your run of the mill tapas joint which is maybe where some people’s expectations differ.
If you are looking for well executed cocktails and small plates with a ‘clubby’ ambiance I would highly recommend. We didn’t order mains so I can’t comment- if unsure, I would stick with small plates and a wicked cocktail!
Would come back in a heartbeat
