My wife and I dined at La Jolla Groves this evening and had a rather disappointing experience. We reserved our table online, paying the $10/person reservation fee, which was honored upon arriving at the restaurant. We were then escorted outside the charming atmosphere of the main section of the restaurant to what seemed like an “add-on” section of the restaurant. Our waiter greeted us within 2 minutes of sitting down, kindly explained the menu and we promptly placed our complete dinner order with our waiter then and there. Rolls came out maybe 5 minutes after. First course came out maybe 15-20 minutes after that. We then waited an HOUR AND A HALF for our main entrees to arrive at our table. Our waiter checked in with us only 2 times during that time, only offering a new basket of rolls (bread plates and dinnerware were absent as they had been cleared previously) and a complimentary fountain drink. I had to personally track down our waiter in the restaurant to finally get a “let me see if they are finished plating your meals”. Food was fine, but after such a long wait (and having to extend our anticipated return time for our babysitter), we were anxious to just be done.
All in all, our visit was disappointing.
1. Dining in the La Jolla Annex was not what we signed up for. We chose to dine here because of the vibe and atmosphere. Which was absent in the “annex” and it was frankly quite cold next to all that glass.
2. I understand a slow kitchen staff, especially on a special day/new menu, but 1.5 hours for 2 entrees? Thats ridiculous. We had tables around us arrive after, and still get food before us.
3. My wife’s experience on Valentines Day was that we spent $100+ on mid food, in a cold place NEXT to the cute vibe of La Jolla, and waited 1.5 hours for our food (placed our order 5 minutes into entering the restaurant).
