The food was outstanding at La Mar but unfortunately the service was the downfall. We were not notified that ordering "water" yielded a mineral water that costed $9 per bottle. This should have been disclosed in the ordering stage. The waitress did not once ask us about the food and at the end of the meal, asked "did you want to take the water to go?" in a rather mocking tone. I was confused at the question and subsequently realized it was because we were charged $18 for the 2 mineral water bottles served. I would have been happy to pay the charge but it should be disclosed and transparent when ordered. I also did NOT appreciate the waiter's tone in asking us whether we wanted to "take the water to go."

We had a great time at La Mar while we celebrated V-Day. Our server Rena was very patient and friendly. She explained the menu and provided suggestions. The place was very hospitable. The food’s presentation and taste was great. We had the Lomo Saltado ( the beef was very succulent) and the Arroz con Mariscos for our entrees and tried the Anticuchos de Pollo for starters. The Pisco was also well made. All in all a great experience.

When seated, we were not given menus for food, only drinks, which was a bit confusing. We were given a specials menu with 2 items listed. The waiter asked if we wanted "traditional" or "modern" Peruvian food. We said we did not have a preference since we did not know what that meant. He brought food menus and gave recommendations. We ordered drinks and when he returned, we he was keen to take our food ordered which was a little rushed. We ordered and that's when the rush really started. We received six dishes within a 20-minute span. There was no pacing of the food presentation, it arrived in rapid succession, roughly 3-5 minutes between plates. The food was mixed. Some dishes were exceptional, but others were just ok. The spice levels were perfect. The issue with the dishes was commonality -- the use of potatoes and hominy is excessive (even though authentic).

We recently returned to La Mar, and I’m happy to say the experience was even better than before! The service has noticeably improved—staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel truly welcomed. It’s clear that the management values feedback; the manager personally acknowledged past suggestions with warmth and professionalism, which made a great impression. Of course, the food remains outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish was a delight, and the ambiance perfectly complemented the dining experience. It’s refreshing to see a restaurant not only maintain high standards but also strive to improve. We’ll definitely be back again!

I just need to preface that I love Peruvian food. I spend a lot of time in Miami, where Peruvian food is abundant. I frequent the local Peruvian joints around the Northwest. So I'm very familiar with this type of food. Which leads me to say- I was excited to try La Mar when they opened in Bellevue. Their reputation is stellar. I booked a table for two on Valentine's day and it was great. For the most part. Food was delicious and the chocolate cake for dessert was amazing. What let me down a bit was I didn't know they were serving a Prix Fixe only. Regular menu not available. But, ow well there were so many things on the menu so I thought I would be trying a little bit of everything. Wrong! We only got to pick one app and one main...for $135! I was a little shocked with this menu and price. $135 seems an enormous amount for three courses. By the way, our table was in a location that didn't allow much room for a pathway, so my chair had been bumped and kicked about 5 times up to this point. Very bad design. Anyways, I chose the hamachi Poke for the starter and the shrimp chiferos for my main. Both were very good, but I just didn't feel the value was there. The dessert came afterwards and that was five star amazingly delicious. I want more. We were eventually moved to a better table after I complained so finally I could relax and eat but not before 3 more collisions into my chair. Overall, 3-stars because of the overpriced menu and terrible seating design. However, I will be back to try the regular menu. I think the prices are a little more reasonable on there. And I definitely want more chocolate cake.

Came here for Valentine’s Day dinner and I was charged a 20% large party fee for 2 and was never made aware of it beforehand. Future customers beware before dining here!
