We decided to try the Landgate again after many years. The chef obviously knows his/her stuff and has some good flavour combinations, although could think a little more about textures, e.g. the braised cuttlefish was delicious but needed something with more bite to contrast with the softness. The guinea fowl was well judged, although our plate did not look the same as others which were served. The sea bass was the smallest piece of fish I think I have had for a main course and was overcooked. Portion sizes vary wildly depending on which main you choose (he Lamb 3 ways seemed a large plate of food). The poached pear dish was excellent.
Service was attentive and it was a welcome gesture to remove voluntarily the sea bass from the bill - clearly, something had gone wrong somewhere down the line. It happens.
I get the impression that you can have a really good meal if you happen to order the right dishes. As it was, my partner’s experience was good, mine OK.
