Holder of two Michelin stars and, more importantly, winner of the OpenTable Best Food award, Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche is among London’s most well loved restaurants. An unimposing doorway in the heart of Mayfair leads in to a temple of gastronomy. Whet your palate with an aperitif in the cosy bar with its country house atmosphere before moving in to the classically designed main restaurant where crisp white linen meets heritage paint colours and tasteful artwork. There may be a dress code here but Le Gavroche is nonetheless unpretentious and comfortable – sink in to a comfortable chair and be spoilt for choice by some of the finest French food the UK has to offer and the pick of a 60,000 bottle wine cellar.

The service was fantastic but the food was on a par with a competent bistro. Over 2 decades ive had a few dozen meals here, 15 years ago Michel Roux was cooking some of the finest food in London. Standards started falling around 2017 and I visited less often finally giving up on the place in 2019. I saw the restaurant was permanently closing so popped in for nostalgia's sake. The food was utterly woeful for a 2 michelin star restaurant. Why Michel let standards fall so far is bewildering, no point complaining as the restaurant will be consigned to history now. An absolute shame to throw that wonderful legacy away like that and go out with an embarrassing whimper rather than at the top of their game. The service is still exemplary, it always was from Silvano, to Emmanuel and at the end the twins. Thank you to the front of house for hosting my guests and I so warmly over the years and thank you to Michel and the kitchen for some wonderful meals.

We had a fantastic experience dining at Le Gavroche! The cheese souffle was outstanding, the cheese selection was wonderful and the wine pairing in general was excellent.

The most amazing night. We got engaged ❤️, the staff were amazing, the food was spectacular & getting to meet Michel Roux Junior was the icing on the cake. We could not have been happier and are just so happy we got to go before they close in January.

Excellent meal, such a shame that the restaurant is closing it's doors in January. Food was generally fantastic, with sophistication but without over-complication at the expense of flavours. All staff were very friendly, informed and attentive (but without over-fussing). Wishing them all success in wherever their career takes them next.
