We were really excited to go to the Magic lamp- having lived in the area our whole lives but had never been. When we saw it was being remodeled, we were anxious to see it complete. Upon entering a few minutes early for our reservation, we were invited to sit by the fire place where live music was being performed. It was beautiful and dreamy. Then the hostess led us to the very first table that was practically in both the hall way and entry way at the same time, right in front of the hostess table. It felt like an awkward place immediately. And I regret not saying anything about my displeasure before it was too late. We heard her tell another couple they could sit anywhere they like in the section and suggested they “tuck themselves into the corner”. We wondered what we need to do next time to get the same treatment.
We ordered and waited about an hour for our entrees to arrive. I asked the waitress if the salmon was wild caught, but it was farmed salmon. I usually try to avoid farm raised salmon, but relented. The waitress came by a couple times to apologize and let us know it was on its way. In the mean time someone brought us more bread, and though I requested two more bread plates, no one came with them so I took one from the table across from me. Our food tasted very good and the atmosphere was wonderful, but we felt for the prices on the menu, we should have had a better experience. The Magic Lamp has the potential to be a truly fine dining experience. We hope next time we come, it will be.
