We booked reservations for Christmas Eve. Let me start with the pros: excellent food. We can’t say anything but good things about our food (French onion soup, New England clam chowder, steak frites, beef Wellington, and lobster thermidor). The restaurant is beautiful with tall ceilings and interesting art work. The chairs were comfort.
The cons: while we were nearly immediately seated, we didn’t see our server for at least 15 minutes. The first thing he did was tell us they were understaffed and then offered to bring us water - and we had to ask someone else for it, receiving it ten minutes after that.
When he finally returned to our table, we ordered EVERYTHING, as he said the kitchen would prefer it on one ticket. At least 15 minutes later, part of our starter order arrived - but we noted we were still missing the amuse bouche for one, a chowder, and the Brie. No spoons were provided. One party member finally went to the busboy station to ask for spoons and the remainder of the starters. After several further reminders, we received the amuse bouche and Brie. Again, more reminders about the missing chowder. It finally arrived after everything else was finished. This was over a 30 minute period.
When the mains arrived, three of the four orders were delivered. For the fourth order, a bowl of chowder was brought - instead of the lobster thermidor. The soup was sent back and the server alerted.
The reminder of the visit was less crazy as there were no further seatings and parties were leaving.
It’s been six or seven years since we’ve eaten here and this experience was so much more inferior. I understand that having your restaurant be short-staffed on a holiday is not ideal but possibly having the manager go table to table may have alleviated much of the grumbling I noticed around us.
We will likely return because the food was delicious BUT will be cautious in providing recommendations here.
