Makan is an Indonesian restaurant in the heart of Melbourne CBD by Tasia & Gracia Seger, the winner of television cooking show My Kitchen Rules 2016.

The word Makan in Indonesian simply means eat. It's also used as a salutation or invitation to eat.

Makan celebrates the different elements Indonesian cuisine; a fusion of vibrant, colourful ingredients, intensely flavoured dishes, and the people who come together and share it. With a warm ambiance creating an intimate retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD, Makan is an exciting discovery of tempting flavours and a contemporary take on authentic dishes.

    I had an incredible dinner! The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was excellent. The meal was authentic and flavorful, and everything was prepared perfectly. We enjoyed a wonderful variety of dishes, and the dessert was the perfect ending to the meal. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

    I love Indonesia and its diverse cuisine. The food at Makan is carefully prepared and beautifully cooked. My OPOR LABU was nice but fairly bland. I had expected more flavour highlights. The Jackfruit CENDOL PANNA COTTA was refreshing and finished off the meal perfectly. The ambience is excellent with the design of the space keeping the noise down and allowing for conversations. Service was friendly and informative, although on this busy Friday night it was hard to play down staff when ready to order.

    Good and attentive service. Menu has been updated. Prices are fair enough for current times. Set meal for 2pax was worth the order. Overall a great experience. Only slight caution is it can get quite noisy.

    Everything was amazing at MAKAN. The food, the cocktails, the service, everything! This was my second visit and we have tasted 4 different cocktails which were ALL excellent! Dishes that you must try are Ayam Goreng Kecap, Wagyu Rendang, Oseng Tempe, Tauhu Telor... oh and the desserts, Black Sticky Rice and Cendol Panna Cotta - yummy. We will be back to try the duck dishes next time and hopefully their Tehramisu as well. Highly recommended for dinner out with friends to celebrate birthdays or simply to have a quiet dinner alone - it is a perfect venue for all of it. Thank you for making our experience(s) so memorable, Team Makan!

    The food was SO delicious and meats expertly made. We were just a party of three and ordered $49 pp menu which consisted of two small dishes and two main large dishes (plus a bowl of Jasmine rice). We ordered for smalls the Sate Ayam chicken skewers and Sate Maranggi Beef skewers. The Ayam skewers were succulent and not dry, and lay on top of a perfect and highly addictive peanut satay sauce. The Maranggi skewers were soft not too rare but richly flavourful from the soy marinade. The mains we chose Rendang Wagyu which looked amazing in presentation (very generous serving too) it looked dense and black cooked in a dark chilli curry. It wasn’t spicy however this dish combined with Jasmine rice is insanely satisfying and filling. Still on the meat tip we ended up with the lighter Ayam Tangkap Aceh an aromatic lightly fried chicken with chilli, curry leaves and crispy pandan. The flavours infused with the rich olive oil tasted great with rice and our Rendang beef. We also had Gado Gado green been + tofu peanut dressing salad. I don’t drink alcohol but the cocktails are also yummy I got to taste my friend’s Cendol - clarified Pandan vodka, palm sugar + salty coconut mmmm the strength of the vodka was nicely offset with sweetness of sugar and that empowering distinct coconut taste. We were so full we didn’t end ordering desert. Next time. We had such a good time and our waiters and waitress were so friendly and obliging with all our requests. Will def be back again 5 Stars
