In case you haven’t heard, Makoto has moved to an awesome new space on the 3rd floor. Re-envisioned by Paris-based designer India Mahdavi, it’s a bold new look which will take your dining experience to a whole new level. Bright colors and cozy banquettes. More outdoor dining. More seats at the sushi counter. And of course, the food and drink will be as fabulous as ever.

Makoto Okuwa ushers Japanese cuisine into the 21st century at his eponymous eatery, located on the 3rd floor of the luxurious Bal Harbour Shops. One of Miami’s most accomplished chefs, Okuwa, a master of Edomae-style sushi, reshapes tradition for a savvy audience eager for something new. Those looking for the perfect spot for a romantic date, a lunch with friends or to celebrate a special occasion, will delight in this remarkable cuisine immersed in a stunning setting created by internationally renowned designer, India Mahdavi.

    El restaurante es muy bonito y la comida es muy buena, pero no tiene extractores suficientes en la cocina si va para alguna reunión después de comer, no se haga adentro, saldrá oliendo a comida, y ese aroma lo acompañará todo el día

    I chose this restaurant for lunch on my birthday, but it was nothing special. I feel the prices are too high for the food and service provided. Everything was overly spiced; I've had better sushi, crispy rice, and noodles in Miami. One dish I did enjoy was the toro tartare. The service was just okay. Instead of sashimi, we were brought sushi, and when my brother asked the server about beer, he only received the vague response, "Don't worry, I'll bring you a good beer." It seemed like our server was rushing and couldn't spend adequate time with each table. Would I return to this restaurant? I don't think so. Again, everything was OKAY; however, the menu and the restaurant's presentation led to certain expectations that were not met. Have to mention that little things matter!!

    I have been going to Makoto regularly over the past 10+ years. The food has always been amazing but it’s now the best it’s ever been. The service and management are incredible and we highly recommend. The extra outside seating has made it even more of a pleasure.
