In case you haven’t heard, Makoto has moved to an awesome new space on the 3rd floor. Re-envisioned by Paris-based designer India Mahdavi, it’s a bold new look which will take your dining experience to a whole new level. Bright colors and cozy banquettes. More outdoor dining. More seats at the sushi counter. And of course, the food and drink will be as fabulous as ever.

Makoto Okuwa ushers Japanese cuisine into the 21st century at his eponymous eatery, located on the 3rd floor of the luxurious Bal Harbour Shops. One of Miami’s most accomplished chefs, Okuwa, a master of Edomae-style sushi, reshapes tradition for a savvy audience eager for something new. Those looking for the perfect spot for a romantic date, a lunch with friends or to celebrate a special occasion, will delight in this remarkable cuisine immersed in a stunning setting created by internationally renowned designer, India Mahdavi.

    I enjoyed my Christmas dinner at Makoto. I was running a little late but when I arrived they were willing to sit me immediately. I had a reservation but wanted to sit at the bar. Antonio is amazing with customer service. When he wasn’t around the other bartender Michelle was checking in on me. Even when I appeared to need help, a Manager (Cindy) stopped and ask me did I need anything make my experience better. Happy Holidays!! I will be back to see them. Food: Crab baked Handroll - 10 out of 10! I had two. Chicken gyozas or potstickers (not sure) 9 out of 10 (I thought they would be fried) Rock Shrimp - 9 out of 10 (a dipping sauce will make them perfect) Chicken Ramen - 7 out of 10 (it’s good but somethings missing in the flavor) I’m just working my way through the menu but I will definitely be back. Again and Again!

    Always excellent, thank you Maria, Sabrina and Oscar for an unforgettable Christmas Eve lunch with my fiancé, mother in law and friend from Switzerland. We had an amazing time! 🙏🏽❤️

    Everything was excellent from the service to the food. We arrived 3 hours early to see if they could seat us and they weee able to accommodate us with no problem. Highly recommend and will be back very soon.

    Located inside a swanky upscale mall. Snagged a last minute rsvp and was seated an hour early. The house salad and Kani salad both were delish and a must! I personally coulf have the house salad and add protein like a few prawns as my meal next time. Wasn’t impressed with the crab roll, each person in my party ordered one and for the price it was disappointing, as the sauce overpowered the actual crab and it was mushy. We tried almost everything on the menu. The Sushi was fresh 10/10. Spicy tuna crispy rice was also very good! The Wagyu hot stone was outstanding as well. The Toban Yaki desert was unique and very good, the cookie part was to die for. Service was subpar, but they were slammed as it’s the holiday season. However, the entire wait staff does work efficiently in bringing food and drinks out and clearing the table for the next plate(s). The interior decor was nice, and colorful.

    The food is relatively Good, but some dishes are too salty. They need to do something about the ventilation system you walk out of there smelling fried greasy food.
