The maitre D/ manager needs a serious “attitude adjustment”. I made a booking for a business lunch I was hosting, and put a note requesting a low table/booth as one of the guests has a bad back and asked that my booking be cancelled if it was not possible to reserve a booth.
When my colleague and I arrived, we were shown to a high table and I immediately mentioned my request. The manager said it was not possible to guarantee a booth and I responded why was my booking not cancelled then? I pointed to a free empty booth and asked why we couldn’t have it and was told booths are on a “first come, first serve” basis only. We pointed out that it didn’t make sense that we couldn’t reserve a booth, and yet it seemed like some people had as the diners were not there. The manager said the diners were there, they just weren’t at the table yet (!!).
My colleague and I sat at the high table and were annoyed at this unnecessary unpleasant attitude and lie - it was clear it was an empty table! My colleague commented that the bad attitude was because of our skin colour but I thought it may just be the manager’s general attitude so let's leave it. The waiter (same skin colour as us) came to ask us if we wanted drinks and I mentioned to him that we were put off by the experience so far and explained what happened with our request to him. He said the booth was being reserved for VIPs but that he could talk to his manager gesturing towards the same person with the condescending attitude. I told him to leave it as it’s the same person who told us the booth was already taken by (invisible) guests.
Our guests arrived and 30 mins into our booking time, the booth was still empty. I saw the manager and waiter in conversation looking at us. Then, the waiter came to ask if we still wanted to move (we did), so the manager clearly was way too obnoxious to come and talk to us herself. Checking the names of those who left negative reviews recently, maybe my colleague was on to something.👎
