At Mallard, Chef Johnson will apply classic and global techniques to the culinary traditions of the south while incorporating the best local and regional ingredients available. Undergirding it all will be a sense of hospitality rooted in Johnson’s memories of the family table.

Mallard’s menu will range from Chef Johnson’s take on classics like Shrimp and Grits with Smoked Pork, Piquillo Peppers, and Tabasco-Shellfish Nage and Wild-Caught Blue Catfish with Poached Oysters, Summer Corn, and Smoked Trout Roe to new creations like Seared Sea Scallops with Cracklin’ Cornbread, Charred Peaches and Dandelion Greens and Crisp Berkshire Pork Trotters with Ramp Chow Chow, Sunny-Side-Up Egg, and Edisto Island Grits. Dessert options include Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Rhubarb and Almond Shortbread and Banana Puddin’ with Cracker Jacks and Nilla Wafers.

This was our second time in a week. The food is outstanding, as the service--very friendly, quiet, helpful, knowledgeable. The ambience is lovely. They have retained the decor of Birch and Barley, which is great. The lighting is lovely, warm and low, but bright enough to read. All in all, a great experience. Neighborhood favorite.

It was a beautiful amber ambiance as we entered Mallard. Beautifully done decor, warm reception, terrific service. And what a great menu - not lengthy but just right and every dish we ordered was great. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. What a neighborhood gem - we will return and enthusiastically recommend it.

Great experience!!! People come for the duck, but the catfish was the perfect level of flavor and spice!! Great cocktails too

The brunch was great - especially the cornmeal pancakes and the full southern breakfast. Great service and a beautiful decor.

Officially my favorite new spot in Logan Circle. Only thing better than the ambience is the food - the pot roast was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back.

What a lovely setting! The food was outstanding however the desserts could use improvement. Service was above average and recommend arriving early as it gets crowded and loud. Solid choice for a wonderful dinner!

We loved our experience at Mallard. We went for lunch/brunch, the food was delicious, really special. Krystal, our server was friendly, knowledgeable and just the right amount of attentive. We’ll be back for dinner.

Fantastic restaurant in every way- Exceptional service, lovely ambience, went above and beyond for birthday dinner with complementary glasses of champagne, desserts and banana bread. Duck wings and duck dinner is outstanding!! Everything prepared beautifully and quality of ingredients was superb. Not overly priced and truly a gourmet experience. I never ever write reviews but this was just a must after that great of a restaurant. 5 stars!
