Mamakas Taverna is an elegant 85-seat Greek taverna on Ossington Ave. Owner Thanos Tripi brings a fresh, authentic approach to Aegean food, offering classical Greek dishes against a contemporary canvas. Each plate is thoughtfully crafted to evoke the way Thanos’ grandmother cooked, inviting guests to explore the Greece he grew up with through food, art and music.

Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.

Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.

    Our server was kind. The staff in general the times we’ve come aren’t particularly “friendly”. They’re not unfriendly certainly, but I guess, this is a place I wouldn’t come because of the service (again, not that it’s bad, it isn’t, it’s just not great). The restaurant has a rather strict timing and we’ve noticed this isn’t a great place for dinners where you stay after your meal and continue the chat. You’re sort of kicked out once you’re done eating as they set the reservations back to back. The food is always tasty with the exception of the spinach and tomato purée dish. It was very well cooked spinach, crisp and bright green, it just seems like a waste to include this in a tasting menu when there’s so many more delicious things to try from Greece. Come back for the food and cocktails, quick and effective service, but expect to pay your bill and leave right when you’re done.

    Excellent - Noula at the door, Natalie our server, Oleg and John, everyone did an amazing job of making our visit warm and memorable! Food was fantastic, extremely authentic!

    Had a lovely dinner at Mamakas Taverna. The food was quite tasty—well-executed flavours and high-quality ingredients. Service was nice, with lots of hands helping out and plenty of staff ensuring things ran smoothly. Pricing seems in line with other Toronto restaurants of a similar calibre, and we left satisfied. Overall, a great spot for a nice meal with solid Greek flavours.

    I had a great time at Mamakas Taverna. This was my second time there, and yet again, I loved their food. We ordered some Kalamari, eggplant and tomato (sides), and all of them were delicious. The ambience of this restaurant is very nice as well, and if you are looking for some Greek food, then you can't go wrong with Mamakas.
