This was NYE and I had a prior excellent experience for a previous New Years and wanted to repeat it. This is a "gem' with its ambiance and history, and I was anticipating a great meal given the occasion but somewhat disappointed as I am elaborating.
1. She Crab Soup- a South Carolina recipe and I'm from MD so I was anticipating something similar to Cream of Crab. The soup was limited in its volume of crab meat, the Sherry and Old Bay added to the taste, but it was just not thick/creamy enough and seemed too "brothy".
2. House salad-@$11 not very large but filled with pecans, cranberries and Maytag Blue Cheese and a vinaigrette-based dressing-delicious and full of flavor, Outstanding!
3. Entree- Rib Eye 12 oz with some type of Dijon/brandy glaze which in my assessment was some type of a beef gravy that ruined the steak. I ordered medium-well which it was, but the meat was very tough and difficult to cut and overall disappointing with several ounces of fat that needed to be cut away- I didn't finish and not very good and I am a steak connoisseur and have experienced much better rib eyes and do understand the marbling and behavior of the meat at various temperatures. This was accompanied by brussels sprouts which were delicious, and I note that fundamentally I don't like brussels sprouts but these may be life altering. Also, some type of mashed potatoes which were also great.
4. Entree -(wife) MD crabcakes which were good and again being a Marylander I have a birthright to defining crabcakes. She had with cocktail sauce, and I tasted them and found them to be as good as any MD local/waterfront crab house.
5. Dessert- Apple Cobbler a la mode, disappointing! Being in Adams Co., PA the state's largest apple producer and just miles from the apple orchards I had high expectations. The apples did not taste fresh, the associated pastry was very bland. The square shapes of the apples seemed to suggest that they had been processed and maybe frozen? The ice cream was
