Mermaid Oyster Bar is a family of casually sophisticated seafood restaurants born in New York in 2003.

Starting out in Manhattan’s East Village as a spot-on rendition of a casual New England fish shack, The Mermaid Inn has morphed into an American seafood brasserie, replete with style, hospitality and a menu marked by bold and seasonally inspired cuisine. The Mermaid Inn has been designed to evoke the feeling of being on a mini vacation in a small seaside village.

Anyone looking for a perfect pre-theater meal, this is your place. The service was excellent (special nod to Jeanine who exceeded all expectations of what a server should be) and the host station staff were genuinely friendly and willing to seat me before my companion arrived, something I greatly appreciated. The menu was varied, the portions right-sized, the quality excellent and the ambiance upbeat without being too noisy. Two of us were able to share two appetizers and one entree and feel perfectly sated (and I was hungry!) and enjoy some conversation without screaming. The restaurant is also big enough that it looks like you can always find your way to a table or bar seat if you're looking for something last minute in the area. Also, don't miss the negroni choices - the bianco was delicious. So glad the Mermaid team decided to open this location!

We made a reservation for a booth and arrived early, aware our table would not be ready immediately. However, people with later reservations were seated at booths before us. I asked the hostess why they were seated before us, but received no response. When our table was finally ready, we were taken to a standard table, despite our request for a booth. Our server took our order, and the first and second courses were served. However, our server never returned to check on us, while the server at the neighboring table checked on them twice. We finished our meal and waited for our server to return, but he did not come by to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. When he finally came over, I asked why he hadn’t checked on us. He responded that he saw we were talking and didn’t want to interrupt. I found this excuse unreasonable, as it is standard practice to check on tables, just as the other servers did.

Our waitress Rebecca was wonderful, she was attentive to our needs but not hanging over us. We all ordered the fried chicken and it was probably the best fried chicken i have ever had. Only complaint was we couldn’t bring the doggy bag of leftovers into the theater. Hopefully a homeless person is enjoying this fine meal.

The yellowtail ceviche was to die for…. Everything we ordered was amazing and our server was friendly and accommodating.

Loved the cocktails..Satine and Pink Flamingo, tuna tartare, oysters from P.E.I. and fried calamari. Will be back here…with friends or even by myself. This place is a keeper!
