Since Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink first opened in the Miami Design District in spring of 2007, diners have come to embrace and crave its refreshing combination of laid-back atmosphere and seriously good food, a neighborhood bistro that is the ultimate showcase for the type of cuisine that chef/owner Michael Schwartz does best – homemade, unpretentious, delectable, with an emphasis on great local ingredients. Bon Appétit Magazine wrote in 2022 "Michael's Genuine is refreshingly approachable yet upscale, offering guests a true neighborhood gem where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy simple, consistently delicious dishes." In 2022 and 2023, the first Florida MICHELIN Guide honored the restaurant with a Bib Gourmand awards.

This exquisite collection of 100 dishes includes hearty stews, saffron-infused rice dishes, succulent kebabs, and delicate rosewater desserts – each one telling a story that is steeped in tradition and has been passed down from generation to generation.     Title: Once a Star, Now Fading There was a time when this restaurant set the standard for excellence, but unfortunately, those days seem like a distant memory. The ambiance remains amazing, a faint echo of its former glory, but the cracks are beginning to show—not just in the wooden tables and chairs, but in the overall experience. The menu, once innovative and vibrant, now feels uninspired. Dishes that used to burst with flavor are now merely passable, lacking the attention to detail that made this place stand out. Service, which was once impeccable, has become lackadaisical, with staff seeming overwhelmed and disengaged. It’s clear this restaurant is riding on the coattails of its reputation rather than striving to maintain its high standards. While the restaurant is still serviceable for a casual outing, it’s no longer the must-visit destination it used to be. Success, it seems, has led to complacency—and the decadence is starting to show. A once-brilliant gem now feels like a shadow of itself. Rating: 2/5

    Awful priced wine list. Asked for 1 bottle, out of stock, asked for another bottle, out of stock. Finally manager came over and we figured out a bottle that was available.

    Good eats and excellent service. Truffle pizza quite good and meat dishes well prepared. Boisterous at high hours so be prepared for a wall of sound. Seek the off hours for a bit more quiet.

    The service rating I gave was low more because of the waitress than the actual waiter service. Our waiter was actually really good, but the attitude of the hostessed made the whole experience not great.
