Disappointing Experience for a 40th Birthday Meal
We had high hopes for a celebratory dinner for two friends, but the experience fell far short of expectations.
After ordering drinks and food, our waiter offered us a bread basket to start. However, less than 10 minutes later, our main courses arrived—before we’d received either the bread or our drinks. When I mentioned how rushed this felt, the waiter assured us he’d bring the drinks and bread immediately. We eventually got the drinks, but the bread never arrived.
We finished our main courses unusually quickly due to the rushed service. Once our plates were cleared, no one asked if we’d like another drink or dessert. We had to flag down a waitress to order another drink, only for her to ask, “Do you have a reservation at the restaurant?”
Things went from bad to worse when our waiter brought the bill and told us we had to leave because another reservation was waiting. I fully understand that there’s a time limit on reservations, but it’s the restaurant’s responsibility to ensure the full dining experience is delivered within that timeframe—not to rely on guests to chase them for service. I explained that we hadn’t even been offered dessert, coffee, or additional drinks, and that our meal wasn’t finished. After some back and forth, they “allowed” us to stay another 30 minutes, during which we managed to order coffee.
Overall, the experience felt rushed, inattentive, and unenjoyable—a conveyor-belt style of dining that prioritised turnover over customer care. A truly disappointing way to spend a milestone birthday.
