Momotaro is a multi-level Japanese restaurant located in the West Loop. Led by Executive Chef Gene Kato, Momotaro has had the honor of being named Restaurant of the Year in both Chicago Magazine and Chicago Social. Under Kato’s leadership the restaurant has come to define the balance between traditional values and modern technique, blending the two in a science and art that has resulted in an authentic, innovative menu. The restaurant, designed by the world renowned AvroKO, also contains the subterranean Izakaya at Momotaro (a laid back, lively lower-level bar and restaurant reminiscent of the neon-lit haunts of trendy Tokyo neighborhoods) and an elegant second floor private space that overlooks the main dining room.

I have been to Momotaro multiple times and this was by far the worst experience I have had. I’m not sure if they were having an off night but the whole thing was a disaster from start to finish. We had a reservation at 8pm for 3 people and were very excited to celebrate my friend asking me to be in her wedding. We ended up getting seated at 8:20pm. We ordered our first round of drinks which took over 25 minutes to get. We then ordered food which took another 40 minutes. When the food arrived, the order was not correct. We told the waiter and he said he would fix his mistake. We then waited another 30 minutes to get our correct order. When we got the bill, we were charged for both the incorrect food as well as our original order. Again, I have been here multiple times and it has always been a great experience however last night was terrible. Was very bummed especially since we were there celebrating an exciting evening.

Tied for the best sushi I’ve had in Chicago. Great service. Super tasty cocktails. Was a bit noisy but was a Friday night so expected. Will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful dining experience. Our server was punctual and knowledgeable and consequently very helpful in guiding a first time sushi-er. Really nice experience, delicious food with equal service. To get nit-picky: little too dark and on the noisy side but those were minor issues comparatively. Thanks Momotaro for making our Christmas celebration so much fun!

Always a great place to go in the Windy City. My wife and I shared 8 tapas sized dishes chosen Omakase style by the waitress. All were tasty!

Our waiter was very helpful with all of the questions we had on the menu and pointed us in the right direction of what to get! Amazing Nigiri and Sashimi.

Not sure what the big deal is. Food was mediocre, especially for the price. Service was terrible. Food was being brought out one plate at a time spaced 20 mins apart. There was no effort to bring things out at the same time.

We’ve been here a couple of times and each time has been incredible. They had an amazing broccoli cold dish and their salmon belly sushi was phenomenal. You can’t go wrong with anything! The fish quality is amazing and so buttery.
