Mona Pasta Bar

Dinner dishes highlight the marriage of Italian techniques with Southern California ingredients including Pesce Crudo with citrus cured hamachi, kosho beet vinaigrette and hazelnuts, Burrata & Tomato with burrata pugliese, heirloom tomato, pine nuts, pesto and squash blossom, Casarecce with lamb sausage and rapini, Lumache - alla vodka, and a Whole Branzino with caramelized fennel.

The menu is designed for snacking over a glass of wine, sharing with friends and/or enjoying a more coursed out dining experience. Pasta, a focal point of the offerings, will all be made in-house.

The wine list is focused on fun, daring, low-intervention, natural wines to accentuate and complement the food. The primarily Italian focused list with opening selections from Sicily to Puglia will be rotating based on seasonality and availability.

If you're traveling east on 9th Street, go past Broadway and make a right at the first alley you come to—this will lead you directly to the parking structure. We chose this restaurant because it was walking distance to the Orpheum Theater where we had tickets to a concert. We had calamari fritti and tomato with pesto sauce and burratta cheese to share as a starter and then each of us chose a pasta dish as main course. The portions are small but the food quality is good. There's a limited selection of wine and they allowed us to try a few to help make a decision. We then had olive oil cake and tiramisu for dessert. It was a about $90 per person which is expensive but about what you expect to pay these days for a meal downtown

Delightful experience, the last stop in our Red Dining Book, and certainly a memorable one. The service was impeccable, above and beyond. Don’t miss the crudo.

Sarah our waitress was amazing! She helped us choose an amazing bottle of wine to share her service was impeccable! Food was on point no complains will definitely be going back before this hidden gem is famous!

Incredible food. I mean absolutely delicious. Caesar salad was one of the best I’ve ever had, Vodka sauce on the pasta was delicious. We also had the baby artichokes (yum!) and the Burrata salad. I’ll gladly eat them all again. 100/10. All pasta made in hose too! My server was so knowledgeable on the wines and let me taste a few until I found the perfect one for my meal-made me feel so welcome. This place is definitely going on the short list of favorite restaurants in downtown.

I made reservations over a week in advance for this place and was very excited to try it but when I showed up for my 5:30 reservation it was closed. I wish they were more professional and didn’t allow someone to book a reservation for a time slot that wasn’t available. I double checked their hours online and they should have been open according to the hours posted on their website. I’m not sure if I would make the trip back considering the lack of respect for their patrons’ time and resources.
