This was the best Christmas Day Buffet that we’ve experienced in the 6 years that we’ve lived in the Savannah area. The food, desserts and service was outstanding. Our server George was attentive and knowledgeable. Usually, at these types of events, banquet servers are used and there’s not a lot of interaction with the guest. However, George was the opposite. He truly understood the assignment and performed it with ease. With that said, I have one complaint. We were well into our meal and a table of 6 appeared along with their very large dog in a baby carriage. I wouldn’t normally complain, however, this party was put right in front of the food. What upset my guests and me was the fact that one of the party from that table took the dog in the carriage and rolled him very slowly past the food as the diner perused the delicious options. We addressed our concerns with the management and, of course, their hands were tied because the law states that you can’t question someone about their “service” dog. I completely understand as I spent 12 yrs as a hotelier. I get it. However, the law distinguishes between a “service” dog and a “companion” dog. Service dogs are working. They are not in a carriage. Strangers cannot pet or talk to them. That was not the case in this experience. It’s really unfortunate because an otherwise amazing meal was almost ruined by the unhygienic, unsanitary appearance of this animal. I say “almost” because we refused to have our wonderful time tainted by an inconsiderate guest. My suggestion would be to seat these people with animals as far away from the food as possible. This way, diners won’t feel so uncomfortable.
