We were a party of two adults and a teenager, celebrating a birthday. We live locally and hadn't ever tried this restaurant for as long as we had lived in the area. The booking process was smooth and painless. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and sort of left to it for a little while (albeit by a very kind and friendly waitress). There was three main menus on the table (one for each place setting) and one wine list/drinks menu. The menus looked a little bit crumpled and slightly worse for wear. We had to keep passing the drinks menu between us to work out what we wanted to drink. After quite a while, the waitress asked us if we were ready to order. We had to ask if it was okay to first take our drinks order while we decided on food. We had only manged to choose our drinks and select some starters so proceeded to place that order. We then saw food coming to other tables that wasn't on the menus we had. When we asked the waitress about it, she said it was a set menu. We asked if we could take a look at the set menus. They then proceeded to go find us some - cue another 10 minute wait. We thought we might want to order some items from the set menu but then were told we had already ordered starters from the main menu but they would ask if it was possible (!). We stuck with our order to save complicating things too much. Soon, our starters arrived with a flourish, but still no drinks. We had to remind a waitress passing by about our drinks. Then two drinks arrived, and the third we were told there was no draft IPA as ordered but we could have a can. Long story short, we were halfway through our starter when the drinks arrived. The theme continued throughout the meal - our second order of drinks arrived when we had nearly finished our mains. So, in summary, very good food but not incredible, friendly service but not attentive, very business-hotel ambience, and quite high prices with a 13% service charge. All in all, it'll be a while before we go back.
