The North Wing restaurant at Downham Hall is our culinary delight set in our historic building in the glorious Essex countryside. We are proud to operate from breakfast to dinner and offer afternoon teas alongside our fine dining experiences. We aim to be that special place to come to, have an evening out, a lovely lunch or a special breakfast.

Family friendly but also special for those romantic and group dining events. Using the best of the local ingredients at our disposal, some even grown ourselves and looking to be something a little special in the area we hope to become a local favourite.

We are a small hotel so can offer private dining, work as a restaurant with rooms and even to support your corporate days as required. We love to show you around, help you relax and get the country air in your lungs.

The North Wing is our very favourite restaurant. Every time we visit we are made so welcome and the food is so delicious. The tasting menu by chef Anthony this time was just perfect. He lets the flavour of the food shine through so there is no overpowering salt or black pepper taste.

What a lovely venue, we went for breakfast, and was really well looked after, the food was excellent and the grounds were amazing, I would definitely recommend this place and will be returning very soon.

Had a set menu £45pp which was reasonable but then paid £12 for 2 bottles of water! The service was ok, no stand out customer service for the serving of the meal, also food: starter was very good, high quality and mezze was explained, very nice waiter. The other courses were just ‘“lamb’ and the plate was put down! My lamb had no accompanying veg or potatoes. Just one small ‘something’ wrapped in a wafer thin courgette! So I felt I was just eating meat! Also one cutlet of lamb was so fatty and hard to cut I couldn’t eat it. Desert was a pie which was very dry. All in all I wouldn’t return, for £150, we had 1 alcoholic drink each, and I felt it was poor value. The front of house staff were very good, they should train the waiting staff to be the same.

The venue is absolutely stunning and staff very friendly. The food is unbelievably good and worth every penny, we will definitely be back very soon.
