Now I normally cannot find a bad thing to say about Osteria Pulcinella. The food is perfect, the ambience is the right mix of cosy and relaxed and the decor is suitable Italian trattoria-like. The service is usually incredibly warm and friendly and spot on.... however on this particular Sunday lunchtime, it was so haphazard we were left bemused when the experience is usually so much better. Perhaps our waiter was hungover? When seated I had to ask for the specials menu and the wine list which usually are given automatically. Then we had to wait ages to order, and had to get the waiter's attention to ask if we could order. When one person was offered parmesan on her pasta, despite the fact that I also had a pasta dish the waiter did not even look at me but turned on his heel and walked off and I had to wave and call him back to ask if I could have some too. And when i asked for black pepper, instead of the usual waiter grinding the big pepper mill a broken one was dumped unceremoniously on our table. We also got warm milk when we asked for cold with our coffee. I will still go back without hesitation, and hope that it was just a one off. The food was still just as good as always.
