Really bad experience. I think Valentine’s Day service must have been an anomaly, because I see how well regarded this restaurant is otherwise.
First, we were told our reservation (8:15pm for two on Valentine’s Day) needed to be pushed back due to delays. Fortunately it only ended up being about a 10 min wait, but that didn’t feel great. Staff told us to go to the bar, but when we got there, there was nowhere to sit because everyone else that was waiting for their reservations were already up there.
None of this would have mattered if the food was good, but man, it was NOT good. I never write reviews, I don’t usually feel compelled to. We got the dumplings/kimbap for appetizers. The dumplings were greasy, the filling unseasoned. The kimbap was flavorless and the ratio of ingredients to rice in the roll were not good. A theory I have is that they were running out of ingredients (if I keep this mindset, the rest of our experience makes the most sense), I just checked the other pictures of the spam kimbap and they had easily 3x the spam we got.
I got the kimchi fried rice which was pretty good. Definitely the highlight of the meal for me. My sweet girlfriend got the vegetable stir-fry and at the last second added a steak on the side—thank goodness for that because it was the ugliest most terrible looking dish I’ve ever seen (steak was delicious, though—cooked perfectly) I hope this app lets me add a pic. It looked like airplane food and a vegetarian microwave dish mashed together for 30 dollars.
The drinks were bad (weak!) the bread came with a half a stick of butter in a tray straight out the fridge… just an awful awful Valentine’s Day experience. I feel crazy looking at 4.5 stars this place has at time of writing, so it might just be that last night was a bad one for them. I know we weren’t the only ones disappointed, both couples that sat next to us had something negative to say about their night too.
