A pleasant date night with my wife, diminished by the meal. From our experience, this noted steakhouse is highly overrated. Karoline our server was the highlight of the evening. Personable, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable of her menu. Absolutely terrific. Ambience was terrible. Too many tables crammed into an open room. Noisy, crowded, uncomfortable. Servers were bumping into tables as they served other diners. Host staff arranged a large group of birthday celebrants immediately behind us. We were seated at the edge of the dining area, indistinguishable from the foyer. (In fact, the couple ahead of us waited for their table at the very table where we were seated.). My Martini was tasty, but I have never seen smaller cocktail olives, but that’s just style. My wife’s thyme lemon drop cocktail was described as being served with a sugarcoated rim, but the entire bowl of the glass was coated in sugar powder. The sticky coating got all over unless the cocktail glass was held by the stem. Truffle spinach artichoke dip was heavy with truffle oil that overwhelmed any flavor from spinach. We found two thumb-sized pieces of artichoke that were too large to spoon onto a chip. Karoline mentioned Perry’s signature seasoning on our steaks, but my New York Strip was so heavily salted that it was inedible. My wife’s specialty King Filet had only a sprinkling of King Crab and was not a filet mignon, but a gristly sirloin. Au gratin potatoes were tasty with a thick layer of cheddar cheese. But the Sherry sautéed mushrooms were floating in a brown, oily Sherry stew. Presentation was unpleasant and the sauce completely overwhelmed any mushroom taste. On the whole, quite underwhelming.
