Chef Mathew Peters, the first American to win the prestigious Bocuse d'Or in 2017, is bringing his culinary expertise to the heart of Austin with the opening of Prelude, an elevated cocktail bar and canapé lounge set in a historic home in West Austin. The space has a beautiful back lawn lounge with views of downtown Austin and private rooms throughout the house that can accommodate groups of 6-18 with private events options of groups up to 120 guests.

Prelude will offer a unique Austin experience, combining innovative cocktail creations with elevated small bites. The menu will feature a curated selection of small plates, designed to complement the bar programs signature cocktails and highlight Chef Peters' culinary artistry. Please note that our kitchen closes each evening at 10 pm.

Join Prélude during Happy Hour Tuesday-Thursday from 4-6 pm for $2 oysters and drink specials.

Absolutely loved trying Prèlude for the first time! From our initial arrival and interaction with the sweet hostess, to our conversations with the bartenders/mixologists who patiently answered all our questions, to the stunning interior design and ambiance… this was a stand-out high end cocktail experience and we look forward to returning!

Prelude has a very hip and cool vibe. The inside is so dark you will need your phone’s flashlight to read the menu. The appetizers are TINY. You don’t get much for your money. Our waiter was great.

Very chic! The atmosphere is sophisticated, beautiful and edgy. Drinks were tasty and novel but serving size is fairly small, not boozy enough and pricey. Clientele is respectable and seemed much younger (ages 25 to 40) than expected. Bar seating is limited so not an ideal place to strike up novel conversations with strangers. Tho, that would be a fun concept to have a singles area to sit so as to meet people who appreciate exquisite aesthetics and attention to detail. Overall, I loved having a cocktail here!

My experience was very good. The food and service were excellent. But the music noise level as well as a very loud guest (across the room) made it very difficult to have an enjoyable conservation.

Everything from the host stand to their service inside was phenomenal. The host took our pictures for us before we entered (It was our 1 year anniversary), our server Kate was super sweet and even got us bubbles to celebrate. Our cocktails were out of this world especially the melon and prosciutto!! And the bartender & manager came by to touch our table was super friendly. Whole place was just a vibe!! Will be returning soon!!

We had an excellent first visit and can’t wait to go back! The drinks are fantastic- first class all the way. Don’t miss out on the Espresso Martini!! We had the hush puppies and they were delicious. The atmosphere here is incredible. The new place to be in Austin!
