The Prince Leopold is a pretty, neatly modernised Victorian pub with a charming riverside restaurant, bar and garden right on the edge of the Wylye River, overlooking water meadows and the rolling hills beyond. With its modern British cuisine it seeks to provide a welcoming, friendly and relaxed environment where its guests can enjoy a range of local, hand-pumped real ales, lagers, ciders and an interesting array of wines and spirits from around the world. A wide choice of homemade food is on offer, from a classic pub menu ranging from lunchtime sandwiches to fish & chips, burgers and steaks, to fine-dining dishes such as goats cheese & honey mousse with salt-baked beetroot and candied pecans; tender cannon of lamb with broccoli puree, Romanesco, Dauphinoise potatoes and red wine jus; a wild mushroom, nut & apricot wellington with mushroom sauce; and apple & Calvados mousse with honeycomb, butterscotch sauce and cassis sorbet. The menu changes with the seasons and local availability.

Booked late but were treated as though we were the most important people there (as everyone was). Great service - friendly and efficient without being overwhelming. Food was of the highest quality - the mushroom starter was sublime and the sea bass main perfectly cooked. I attempted eton mess for pudding but was sadly too full to finish it. It was all just right. We sat at the table by the window looking over the river and the fields beyond. Couldn't have been improved. Not the cheapest meal but worth the money.
