   The food at Rai was excellent, but the service was slightly exhausting. The head chef purposefully speaks at 100 mph whilst delivering food at a shouting volume as part of the 'act' but it is impossible to understand what he is actually saying and he had already moved onto the next table before we could ask for a repeat. We spent most of the evening watching the confused faces of other diners as he repeated the same shouting spiel over and over again, never being fully understood. I am not really sure of the point of it. I would have preferred to know what I was actually eating (this could also be solved by handing out a menu), rather than the unnecessary yelling, and we thought this really let down the experience. The waiters who came table side were slightly better, but volume wise it is loud, so we had to ask them to repeat a lot of things (less of an issue as they were very happy to do so). Food wise, the flavours are excellent and the portions were plentiful (they do not miss the opportunity to upsell extra options, both before and during the meal, but we didn't feel necessary). We were also able to move to bar seats to finish our wine as we ran out of our allocated 1hr40 at the sushi counter. My other annoyance came in the nigiri course which was served very quickly (back to back pieces coming out). The head chef kept barking that we needed to eat each piece whole and immediately move onto the next, which 1) isn't the pace I want to eat at and 2) why are you once again shouting? Again, just felt a bit much. There is better (calmer) Omakase easily found in London, and for this price point, I just wish they'd chill out a little with the yelling and think about guest experience.

   We celebrated a friends birthday and what a treat it was. The quality of the food was amazing chef was very chatty and skilled and made the experience unforgettable. All the team was very helpful and the vibe of the place was really good. Reccomend

   The experience was perfect. Food was mind blowing even though I went to so many good Japanese restaurants before. I brought my girlfriend here and she absolutely loved it. I have left a note when booking the table saying that we were celebrating our 6 months anniversary and they surprised us with free champagne. The head chef Rai was very nice and funny and enthusiastic, making us laugh a lot. I would definitely come back and take my friends and family too. Perfect experience.

   I visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday after seeing it frequently on Instagram. While the sushi quality was good and the staff were friendly, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations, especially considering the price. We ordered two £78 omakase sets, an additional wagyu dish for £49, and three glasses of wine with water, bringing the total to £300. For that price, I expected a more immersive omakase experience. Unfortunately, there was only one sushi chef, and if he was serving other guests, we had to wait a long time before being attended to. The setup also lacked the typical omakase experience—there was no real engagement with the chef, nor could we watch the sushi being prepared with the level of craftsmanship that makes omakase special. Instead, sushi was simply placed in front of us with little interaction. Additionally, communication was a bit challenging, as the staff’s English was limited, making it difficult to ask questions or understand details about the dishes. Another downside was the wet towels provided, which had an unpleasant smell and left my hands feeling unclean—something the restaurant should definitely address. Overall, while the sushi itself was good, the experience fell short, and I don’t feel it was worth the price. I wouldn’t return.
